Did the Long Course in 2026We've supported KZNTR events for many years and have always appreciated the effort that goes into organising trail races, which is why we were disappointed by our experience at the Valley of 1000 Hills Trail event. The biggest concern was the route marking. At one point, the course was poorly marked, and we had to turn back to figure out where we'd gone wrong. Fortunately, we were with a group of runners who helped us find the correct route. Had we been on our own, we could easily have become lost. The river crossing was another challenge. The rope across the river was too slack to provide much assistance, and a volunteer at the water table was doing his best to guide runners across at a different point. We appreciated his efforts, but it highlighted that the crossing itself could have been better managed. It was also disappointing to finish the event without any water or hydration being offered. After a demanding trail run, even a simple cup of water at the finish line would have been greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, a friend in our group suffered a serious fall and sustained a deep wound. While the paramedics attended to her, they didn't have the appropriate supplies to properly clean the injury, which was concerning given the nature of trail running. We know how much work goes into organising these events, and we share this feedback in the hope that it will help improve future races. We've enjoyed supporting KZNTR over many years, so it was disappointing that this event didn't meet the high standard we've come to expect. We hope these points will be taken in the constructive spirit in which they are intended.
