About this event
Framed by the golden sands and laid-back atmosphere of the iconic Grumpy’s Beach Bar, the Blythedale Trail Run begins with the soothing rhythm of the Indian Ocean as waves break gently along the shoreline. Before long, the route leaves the beach behind and winds into the lush indigenous forests that make the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast so unique, offering cool shade and a welcome contrast to the open coastline.
The trail meanders towards the picturesque Mdlotane Estuary, where river and sea meet in a spectacular natural setting. From there, runners are treated to a rewarding mix of flowing single track and rugged dirt roads that weave through dense coastal forest and pockets of indigenous bush.
For those tackling the longer distances, the adventure extends inland onto sugarcane farm tracks, adding both distance and variety to the challenge. More than just a trail run, the Blythedale Trail is an unforgettable journey through one of the North Coast’s most beautiful landscapes, where forest meets ocean, every turn reveals a new view, and the sound of the sea is never far away.
