You can't cancel an entry yourself. The organiser withdraws you and decides on any refund, based on the event's refund policy and how close to race day you ask.
How to ask to withdraw
- Click your name, choose My Events, and click View Details on the entry.
- Click the organiser's email address on the Organizer card, or reply to your confirmation email.
- Give your full name, your Registration Number, the event and race, and say you want to withdraw.
- Ask sooner rather than later. The refund depends on how many days are left before the race when it is processed.
How much you get back
Each event has a refund policy set in bands by how many days are left before the race. Unless the organiser has a different policy for their event, the standard policy is:
| Days before the race | Refund |
|---|---|
| 30 days or more | 100% |
| 14 to 29 days | 75% |
| 7 to 13 days | 50% |
| Less than 7 days, or race day | Nothing |
- The percentage is of what you paid for the entry: the entry fee plus any extras and day licence bought with it.
- A R25 administration fee and the payment provider's charges on your payment are then taken off the refund.
- Those fees are never more than the refund itself, so you never owe money.
- Days are counted to the race date on South African time.
For example, on a R400 entry with 20 days to go: 75% is R300, less the R25 administration fee and the provider's charge on your payment.
When the money arrives
- When a refund is processed, you get an email saying how much was refunded and any fees taken off.
- Depending on your bank, it can take a few working days to appear on your statement.
- A refund normally cancels your entry and frees your place. The email tells you if it did.
- Depending on how the organiser takes payments, the refund is either sent through RaceConnect or paid back by the organiser directly.
Good to know
- If no refund is due, you may still be withdrawn. The email then says no money was returned under the event's refund policy.
- If you would rather get your money back from another runner, sell your entry on the Marketplace instead. That works up to 7 days before the race. See "Selling your entry".
Common questions
How do I cancel my entry?
Email the organiser from the Organizer card on your entry page with your registration number. Only they can withdraw you.
Why didn't I get all my money back?
The refund depends on how many days were left before the race, and an administration fee and payment charges are taken off. The refund email lists the fees.
The race is less than a week away. Can I still get something back?
Under the standard policy, no refund is due in the last 7 days. It is still worth asking the organiser. The Marketplace also closes 7 days before the race.
My refund email came but the money isn't in my account
Banks can take a few working days. If it still hasn't arrived after a week, reply to the refund email with your registration number.
